Autumn Tree II, Eve Rosin

Nature's Radiance, Claire Carter. This one also comes as a chuppah!

we can upload our own photo/art!

Two Trees - Promise, Claire Carter

Two Trees - Serenity, Claire Carter

Summer, Micah Parker

Tree of Life - Delight, Claire Carter

are you seeing a theme here? Trees? אני לדודי ודודי לי = Ani ledodi vedodi li? Blues and greens? Not a lot of red? For some reason too much red/orange just bothers us. I like wearing red, but Ben doesn’t. Whatever, cool tones and neutrals it is.

PS- I’m not sure what Ben means when he says they’re “cute.” Does he like them, not care to look right now, or think they’re too feminine?

olympic soul/sleep suckage

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010

Sadly, Ben isn’t a huge olympic fan, so I’m watching so much extra to try and make up for it. I do call him over to watch the snowboard cross and anything totally amazing (thanks for the ability to rewind, TiVo!), but he’s just not that into it. I don’t get it!

poor naive DJ that we’re not going with

Monday, February 15th, 2010

This morning a DJ called me saying that he’d bought my contact information off of a website that I’d registered with for reading/writing reviews of wedding related vendors. Granted, I had requested that DJs within a certain price range contact me, but most have done it via email or snail mail and not been so forward about having to pay for the right to contact me. This guy called, that’s a nice personal touch, but at 11:30 AM, and WOULD NOT LET ME GET OFF THE PHONE. My problem with the timing was not that it was early, but that if I were not so under employed, it would have been in the middle of my work day! Not an appropriate time to chat for 20 minutes about nothing/weddingy crap with a guy I don’t know. He also kept talking about The Jewish wedding he did a few years back, and had never heard of the St. Julien Hotel, and then asked me what kind of church it was….. Um, just one Jewish wedding doesn’t make me feel confidant, and asking what kind of church was just a fail of listening skills. And, as un-judgmental as I try to be, he sounded kinda backwater and uneducated. I’m sure he’s a very nice man, just a bit more provincial than what I think we’re looking for.

Do we really need a DJ? I think so. A designated MC sounds like a good idea, and we’ll need someone to mic and run sound for the ceremony anyway, so we may as well pay them a few hundred dollars more to stick around and play pretty music for us all afternoon.

I hope the weather behaves for us. Having the ceremony outside, in the courtyard/lawn would be awesome, especially if followed by cocktails on the patio with the waterfall and awesome fireplace. I wish I had a photo of the fireplace. Boo. It’s just to the left of that giant empty flower pot in the lower left corner of the photo.

This lighting looks decidedly Spring-y. I’m hoping it will be a little clearer and brighter in the fall.

a random assortment of wedding goings on

Friday, February 12th, 2010

I got my first confirmation (x3 now) that people actually received and appreciated our save the date magnets. YEY! Apparently I was initiated into the world of being a bride when I tried to mail them on Monday: Post Offices hate brides. So, I went to the postal annex in the off-campus bookstore. They were great. The lady at the desk took the time to measure and weigh a little envelope to make sure that it passed muster for standard stamps and then handed me a bucket of stamps to pick out which ones I wanted! And when I asked for 3 international stamps, she gave me the air mail stamps without any prompting. Off-campus bookstore postal annex lady, you rock!

Ben and I also went and met with a potential florist today. She was cool, apparently she’s a dance and hula hoop instructor when she’s not a florist. She had some neat ideas, but might be a bit too wood nymph-y for our more modern aesthetic.

Random question posed to the lurkers out there: did you get your magnet, and when? and do we mail magnets to our vendors as well?

aaaargh – dress stress

Monday, February 8th, 2010

I just got an email from the salon I ordered my dress from, saying that ALL dresses are going to be on sale next weekend for 15% off. Crap. I just ordered it last week at only 10% off because of a trunk show going on (when they have more dresses than usual for a line and want to move them quickly). GURR.

I need to call anyway and order more fabric. I want another yard of tulle because I’ll need to add the blusher. I can’t decide if I want to order fabric to make a bolero jacket too, but I don’t think so. Any opionons on adding pockets in the side seams? I just want a place to stash my chapstick!
